      He was a jumped-up REMF who wanted to go on a "boonie walk" instead of doing what he was paid for: command an artillery battalion.

      He has the same problem Gen. George Patton had: an ego the size of Siberia and the sure belief that he was fighting in a "noble cause". That "noble cause" thingie, BTW, is how many meglomaniacal "warfighters" rationale their crusades; it gives them moral cover for committing all kinds of atrocities. Patton, however, had a warrior's respect for his enemy; West, not so much. His Islamaphobia got the better of him, and sent him down a dark, dark path to where he is today.
