  •  Three years ago the office (attorneys, paralegals, (13+ / 0-)

& support staff) met at a local bar for the December holiday celebration. Somehow the conversation got around to how it was now a post-racial America. The secretaries, the paralegals & I looked at each other & proceeded to tell those who thought so that they were very mistaken. As the white mother of a bi-racial young woman (adopted in 1984 in Oklahoma and relocated to Texas in 1992), I am keenly aware that society is not post-racial. Yes, the rest of the attorneys were clueless.

    •  I also know many educated who are clueless (5+ / 0-)

But just think how much worse they would be without education and just FOX News to go on.

      •  President Obama (4+ / 0-)

has carried the college-educated demographic in the last two elections, but historically this group has been predominantly Republican.

You also fail to appreciate, I think, of the progressive nature of many in the blue collar rank & file ... who together with other key historically disadvantaged minority groups clearly delivered this election to the President and no small number of in-state coat-tails.

Education is but one variable among other, and arguably more compelling, demographic characteristics.

The one permanent emotion of the inferior man is fear - fear of the unknown, the complex, the inexplicable. What he wants above everything else is safety. H.L. Mencken
