Tea Party, Revolution, backlash to the Kenyan Socialist in their house and the interim elections had served to encourage the elephant. I don't think that they can do that again.  If the Republicans in the House continue to block progress then the American people will take out their wrath on the poor elephant. But, it's up to Obama to make that case. He has to be working from day one of the new Congress to paint them into a corner. Strategies are long term and tactics can only go so far to make up for a poor or non-existent strategy. The Republicans signaled early that their strategy was to make Obama a one term President by blocking his and America's success. The strategy was viable because the retort, that is blaming Congress, would make the President look weak. They almost got away with it and I maintain that they would have if they nominated a true populist instead of a totally flaky elitist who was mentally stuck in the 1950s.
