    ...achievement was to tear the veil off closet racism in much of America. And he actually didn't have to do a thing; the racists tore the veil off themselves, unable to countenance a black president.

    In the end, it's a good thing. Not the specific instances of overt racism, of course, but the very painful reminder to all of America that we still have a very big problem, here. I know far to many white people - lefties included - who feel that the election of President Obama was some kind corner we'd turned. While I think it's an important milestone, I have some grave reservations about saying we've "turned a corner".
