winter weather returns, so we will be playing outside today.  Got enough done yesterday so that my car (just) fits into the garage; I hate scraping, I'm just too short so it is a winter priority for me for my car to not need scraping.

I want to make some yummy polish cabbage rolls for supper (and beyond).  I can't spell goulabke correctly.

My personal (elephant carrying and sad) veteran got banana-walnut-buckwheat pancakes for breakfast.  A hat tip to Noddy for what to do with a very ripe banana!

yesterday afternoon was fun, getting tons (almost literally) of damp catalpa leaves out of the back yard & into the street for pick-up starting Tuesday. All 3 of us worked for 1.5-2 hours, til it was AFTER too dark to see! but we got the back cleared. also 3 5-gal buckets of apples to sort! (the cider press is in storage 300 miles away, though)

Monday we'll be finishing the front! 2 maples & a filbert. haven't had much wind so far this fall, but the leaves are coming down a bit earlier, maybe the dry this summer. has been sort of fun watching the Japanese maple go trampoline as our tree-rats race around harvesting seeds!

of course there are still leaves on all the trees, but there's a 2d pick-up run in about 5 weeks, so we'll be able to clean up.

argh! while hauling leaves from the back, suddenly got hit in the face with a dierama stem, heavy with a half-dozen seed pods! which means that somehow I managed to miss the FLOWERING! which I've been waiting for for 2 years, or 3. quel frustrát! (sic, 40yo French) (and yes, I would have had ONE stem of flowers, not the mass in the photo, but you get the idea, 8-)) (my! didn't know this S.African native was so popular in Japan, goody! all the better that ours are planted in the Japanese stroll garden section of the yard!)

"real" work : a job where you wash your hands BEFORE you use the bathroom...
