    Abraham Lincoln, when I hear people talk about him as having "freed the slaves," the first thing that comes to my mind is the horror that this nation actually viewed slavery as business as usual.  It's unimaginable to me, and I have no doubt that 150 years from now people will be appalled at today's "norms."  At least I hope to God they are.
