My oldest brother and his wife have morphed from moderate fiscal conservatives to Tea Partiers, but the process took years of listening to lies on Fox. Somewhere in that process they lost the ability to tell the difference between fevered far right fantasy and real world reality.
I don't know how that happened, but I do know that the process was gradual, but complete in their case. I suspect that is how it happened for many conservatives who have given themselves to hatred and loathing. The closest situation I can compare it to is someone who looses their identity in a cult. How will a few sane conservative voices break through that cultish barrier?

How do you de-program  millions of fools? I think the simple answer is you can't. Well, let's just say that it's never been tried.

My feeling is that most of those millions of cultish Republicans can't be returned to reality. The Republican party is doomed to wander in the wilderness, continuing to wallow in their willful ignorance and hatred. I just don't see how there could ever be enough moderate voices to turn the cultish tide of what conservatism has become.

    Buh bye Republican party.

A cult.  Roger Ailes went to Reagan (I think) and suggested GOP TV.  Reagan said NO, and so Ailes found Murdoch.

Since then, it is ALL GOP propaganda ALL the time.

Try to convince your brother and SIL to turn off FAUX for 1 month and watch NBC nightly news.  They don't even have to go to Rachel, Lawrence and Ed.  One month with no Rush or Fox and I think they will feel a little different.

but I just don't think they'd give up Fox for a day; you see, they think I'm the one with an "extremist" problem, that I'm the one who is brainwashed.

You can lead a horse to water, but can't make him drink.

You can lead a conservative to sanity, but can't make him think.
