  •  Many of those close losses (5+ / 0-)

are Democratic incumbents being defeated in heavily Republican or Republican-trending districts.  Democrats aren't getting those back.  Democrats should go after Republican-held House seats in Democratic parts of the country (many were held by Democrats before 2010), regardless of gerrymandering.  I think they should make voucher-care a national issue, and urge voters to punish every Congressman who voted for voucher-care.

a more effective target list could probably be made ... I think it's key to focus on the seats we can actually win.

I know we all want to beat John Boehner and Eric Cantor and the like... but I just think we have to be smart about this. We have to focus on seats that we can actually win.

It does make sense that if the GOP beat a Dem incumbent in this election it's unlikely we're going to win that seat back ...

Perhaps the key is to go after GOPers in districts where Obama won or came close to winning? I need to look at the presidential election results by district.

      •  Isn't that what Alan Grayson did? (2+ / 0-)

Not everyone is Alan Grayson, of course, but I don't think you should set your parameters too tight at the beginning.

I really like this early call to action!!

        •  Grayson ran in a new district (0+ / 0-)

They created a new mainly Hispanic district so Grayson had that seat  won once he won the primary. He should keep that seat as long as he wants.
The house is so gerrymandered I don't see a way for to many more gains short of the republicans continuing it's major obstruction. we also have the problem of democrats not voting in non presidential elections.

So, let's work on that. I think, in part, that is what Chocolate Chip is trying to say. Let's keep working, and do what we can to get out the vote in the next election.

I hope we don't have to wait until the 2020 redistricting to have a shot at this thing again...

admittedly 2014 looks like a long shot right now with it being an off year and how hard it is for us to get our people out in mid-terms... but it's worth a shot!

2016 seems like a real possibility if Obama ends his term with high popularity and we really steamroll the presidential election.

            ...

but 2 years is a long time in politics ... let's set ourselves up for the possibility to take advantage of things if they fall our way... target those GOPers we can beat early ... and then get the job done.

            •  Did you see the piece on Patty Murphy? (0+ / 0-)

She accepted an "impossible task" and triumphed.

I find it hard to believe a bunch of women* can't do as well or better!

the roots of the grassroots go dry.  We need to hit some of these governorships hard right off the bat.  SCOTT has to go..Jail I hope but gone would be a vast improvement.  We need better Dem leadership down here in Florida at the state level.  The people of Florida got this done and not the Dem party of Florida.   They are too timid and have cowered to the tea party.  We need some strong leadership and we need to start RIGHT NOW.

Unfortunately Dan Webster (who he lost to in 2010) won again... although it was close and I think we can get Webster in 2014!
