  •  Also, redistricting is still in the NC courts (1+ / 0-)

A coalition of civil and voting rights groups -- including Democracy NC, the NC NAACP, the League of Women Voters and the NC A. Philip Randolph Institute -- filed a legal motion claiming that the political districts approved by the Republican-led NC legislature disenfranchise black voters and are asking the courts to declare the lines unconstitutional.

Of course, with conservative Justice Paul Newby being re-elected (with the help of a lot of outside money), the NC State Supreme Court’s 5-4 conservative majority remains intact. But even if the judges refuse this motion, the larger legal challenge will proceed to the next stage: a hearing toward the end of the year.

However, with the Supreme Court potentially weakening or even gutting the Voting Rights Act, we may run out of options after that.

If money is speech, then speech is money and I should be able to pay my bills with witty social commentary, astute political analysis or good old blarney
