I mostly like making stew in the winter, and summer too if the weather isn't so hot that it is already cooking without the stove.  I haven't tried anything like this.  When you talk about adding stock, do you prepare stock ahead of time?  I generally use Swanson Stocks as they have good flavor and are easy to add.  Making stock from scratch is a process all it's own and I prefer soup because I make an effort one night and enjoy it many nights to come.  I haven't tried adding more stock and veggies to my regular sup, although I'm sure that could be done.  I also make a mean Leek - Potato Soup and a real good Chicken Noodle, although I find that the noodles disintegrate quickly.  I started using barley instead of noodles as they hold up much better over many nights and taste great.  I think I'll try a Senate Navy Bean soup[ this winter.  I like the flavor, but the times I've tried it, I didn't like the results.  I'll need to find a better recipe.  i use the one that the Senate publishes, not my cup of tea.

For chicken noodle soup, very simply, I cook the noodles separately and add them per bowl.  I learned that from a Polish friend of mine.

Let me explain the order of things to you. There's the aristocracy, the upper class, the middle class, working class, dumb animals, waiters, creeping things, head lice, people who eat packet soup, then you. -- Gareth Blackstock, Chef!

stock and broth for using later.  I can buy chicken and duck carcasses at the Asian markets, as well as lovely marrow bones, chicken feet, and neck bones from oxen, beeves, and pigs.

I don't generally mix stocks, though.  If I start with chicken, I stay with chicken, or beef, or pig, or whatever animal I made the stock from.

      I've never used store-bought stock.
