  •  I think your answer in # 5 is conflicted. (7+ / 0-)

    You say:

Once the fetus is viable, able to survive without a respirator or advanced technology, then I do believe that the abortion window should be closed.  There is enough time before that for choices to be made.  So yes I understand the concept of a late term abortion ban
But then you go on to note:
But late term abortions are not done for convenience.  The necessary exceptions for the life and health of the mother make the issue moot, and I will not make that choice for another.
If you hold to the second part, that late term abortions are done under extreme duress (by women who wanted the baby, but are forced because of either a major problem with the fetus that couldn't be detected earlier, or because of a life threatening situation), then there s no reason for a late term abortion ban - the only thing it's going to do is force women in an already stressful and unhappy time to jump through hoops to have the abortion.   If a woman didn't want a pregnancy in the first place, she will have dealt with it before the "viability" issue arises.

Then again, I'm also anti-  any sort of ban or restrictions whatsoever.  It's a medical issue and should not be regulated past the normal requirements for licensing doctors and medical facilities.

I’m a feminist because the message is still "don’t get raped" not "don’t rape"

    •  It's a complicated issue, but I'm not conflicted (2+ / 0-)

I'll see if I can word it better, but that's exactly what I meant, that there's no need for a late term abortion ban, because 99% of them will be covered under life/health exceptions anyway.

I didn't say I support a late term abortion ban, I said I understand why some people want one.  They can't have it though.
