  •  The Amish raise dogs in puppy mills (15+ / 0-)

treating them like a cash crop. Animals that are genetically developed to be companions to people are treated like disposal trash.

The animals are never socialized, live all their lives in tiny cages with wire floors. When and if rescued, some of the dogs have permanently damaged pads on their feet, cannot walk, don't know how to go up stairs, are unhealthy, terrified, suffer from a number of ailments.

No effort is made to breed only healthy animals, so that any genetic failings are passed on to the puppies. And to you, the purchaser, if you buy a pet store dog that came from a mill. "Papers" are not a guarantee of a healthy dog.

Do NOT buy dogs from pet stores, because that's where they get their inventory.

The Amish do this in a number of states, including West Virginia, Missouri, Ohio, and elsewhere in the midwest.

Since learning about this practice, I have nothing good to say about the Amish. They are scum in my book.
