  •  So the Mister Boo is gone. (22+ / 0-)

I got nothing to offer you but hope. Each dog that has ever adopted me has left a trail of joy in my life. It hurts like hell to lose a buddy. You live on and the Boo dog is immortal. He lives on in you and every other person the big goofy lug came into contact with. Labs are always fully in the moment even if the moment is not exactly what you as a human had in mind. Labs to me are unconditional love. I hope that you are willing to let another one adopt you. Sounds like you could use it when the time is right.

Animals adopt us. They are teachers, sometimes hard to understand what they are saying. We have had so many dogs and cats, I can't tell you. My first dog, Dan the Man, was a large Black Lab, who we had for 15 yrs. As soon as he met my future wife, he knew the first day he met her, he was HER dog. Loved that guy.

      •  That wisdom came from my father. (0+ / 0-)

He always said to me that you don't pick the dog, the dog picks you. The puppy that went looking for you, the one that ignored everything else to be by you, the one that fell asleep on you instead of its litter mates, the one that cried because you were not there, that was the one that chose you. You were his or her human and that was that. There were several times that We went looking at pups and came back empty according to dad's rules.
Don't get me wrong, the only marginally controlled five year old in me loves all puppies, and labs most of all, and thinks, no, knows that happiness can be found being under the puppy pile still follows my father's wisdom and thus far it has never failed.
