  •  Fundamental Disagreement. (0+ / 0-)

I fundamentally disagree with what was said in this post. As a progressive I like the idea of coalition building. However, I fundamentally disagree with the idea that GLBT people in any way owe progressives for supporting marriage equality.

If they decide to work for whatever political goal they want, more power to them. This is especially true if we helped them gain said power.

I would stand up as quickly for the rights of Log Cabin Republicans to marry as I would for gay members of the Democratic party. It is not about ideology, it is about morality.

Standing up for equal rights does not require payback or make anyone "owe" us. It is simply the right thing to do.

I do not do the right thing in a quest for power. As a progressive, I act because my goal is to improve the human condition. This post has actually hurt me as a heterosexual man who cares about the plight of marginalized people, gay or not.

I am pretty sure that you have done more for marriage equality than I am, but that doesn't change the fact that I disagree with what you have written here. My feelings on the subject are too strong to hide.

Honestly, I expected a little more from you, Kos. I didn't even realize it was you who had written this until I had decided on the basis of my response.

I respect what you have build and what you have done, but at the same time I find myself disappointed by what you have written here. No one who has achieved equal rights is required to pay a debt to anyone.

I do the right thing for the good of society, and nothing more. Do you feel differently than I do?
