  •  I have been involved in OFA since right after the (8+ / 0-)

first inauguration.  We have a large group formed now for a rural GOP dominated area.  We keep in touch constantly developing opportunities to research and discuss issues, books, films, then take our knowledge and use it to call, talk to our neighbors, write LTE's (letters to the editor).  We also do service now through Joining Forces.  We have a small high school Democrats group forming.  I cannot say enough about how great it is to find new people all the time who didn't know anyone else in their community thought like they did.

We train ourselves in quality voter contact, rapid response, and how to research the issues and have quite a voter registration team now.  Its all volunteer and there's no drama, just the principles of respect, empower, include.  We work out of our homes, and any free venue that we can use like community centers and libraries.  We potluck, and there's not much more expense.

If a rural GOP dominated reactionary community like ours can support an active OFA group then anyone can.

In our state (not a battleground) volunteers were "promoted" into field organizers, etc.  Now we are even more fired up and experienced.

P.S.  I was on the call last night and it was amazing the stats they were giving.  I could not believe what volunteers across the country had accomplished just in this one organization.  I know countless others in NAACP, Move On, AFL-CIO, Rebuild the Dream, League of Women Voters, Emily's List, La Raza, J Street, and many other organizations worked like heck for this victory.

    •  Thank you for your work. (0+ / 0-)

Do you'all regularly contact your Senators and Congressman? You should even if you just get form letters.

Particularly exciting and praise worthy is the campus Democratic group.

Are you all going to back 1 or more of your own in an up coming election?

I'm asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about real change in Washington ... *I'm asking you to believe in yours.* Barack Obama
