We now have a host of smart Democratic members of Congress who do not have approval ratings south of 30%.  Any suggestions?

    •  No idea, but that's a different question (0+ / 0-)

I have no idea because I don't follow the members of the house that closely.  But Pelosi's answer was not an institutional defense.  It was a personal defense.  You are discriminating against me because I took time off to have my children, therefore I am not old... or something like that.

It seems to be a reflection of what's wrong with the institution on both sides.  It's about me.  Not the people, not the country, not principles, me.  This could have been Romney's slogan, I want, I want, I want.  Pelosi could have given an institutional answer, something like, there is always a balance between the value of experience and youth and energy.  It's difficult to know exactly how to draw the balance and we all do the best we can.  I believe I can do the best job because...  But that's not where she went.  She went to what could be described as I'm entitled and allowances have to be made because I'm a woman.

What do you think republicans heard?

      •  I agree. I doubt most people liked her response (1+ / 0-)

--posters here notwithstanding.   Her tone, her laugh, her condescension, her chorus of snickering acolytes.

There is an evident blind spot among her Kos devotees.

I have no idea why so many here continue to back a leader who has an approval below 30% and has presided over a devastating defeat.

        •  her approval is more than 2X that of congress (8+ / 0-)

so she's relatively popular i'd say.

i note that no one really cares what boehner and mcconnell's approval ratings are.  or really whether harry reid is well liked.  but then most people don't know who harry reid is.  i guess that shows that the right is doing their job.

they've done their job here too.   because instead of supporting nancy as "her chorus of snickering acolytes" (also known as the us congresswomen of the democratic congress) do.  you choose to buy into the right wing meme and criticize nancy using their talking points.

          it's sad.

The approval rate for congressional leaders is meaningless.

When you mention her popular approval as if it was politically relevant, you look foolish.

Who do you think was the star in the GOP's ads that fall?

has been explained to you multiple times throughout this thread by people who are (apparently) not as simple minded as you

and instead of rebut them with coherent arguments (which you cannot), you continue to create new comments pointing to the scary nancy pelosi boogeyman blaming her for all the democratic failures of 2010.

you could LITERALLY be the GOP right now.

wow.  you must be so proud.

Had a lot more to do with the Administration's feeble responses to the economic crisis than it did with Nancy Pelosi's leadership.

For instance, when it became clear that the stimulus was too small, what did they do?

And HAMP, which was supposed to help homeowners avoid foreclosure, was a cruel hoax designed by Timmeh Geithner to help the banks (as was most of what the Administration did in its first term).

I'll tell you what all women and most people over 55 heard.  The heard "hey, you little twit.  Go away, grow up, learn a thing or two about real life, then we'll talk.  Now please get your diaper changed, because you really smell bad."

No one heard any kind of "me, me, me" in that response - except you, of course.
