    Sorry to buck the trend here, but Russert's question assembled the miasma of innuendo about ageism and sexism that pervades our discourse, and pitched it to Pelosi in a way that let her hit it out of the park.  Done.  Gone (for now at least).  

    Other reporters, if they believed the premise, would have found a way to avoid the question but work it into their commentary instead.  Russert played devil's advocate by going straight to the source, and the result was a moment of clarity: perhaps a lesson to the Akin-wannabes that still lurk in the floorboards. And the timing was perfect.  Russert took the fall for this, but it seems to me that the result was effective.  (Anyone remember Bobby Riggs?)

    Failing to confront head-on the unmentionables of discourse -- or worse, feigning distance when they do happen to arise -- merely ensures their continuing operation.
