  •  When Crumb Closes a Door... (9+ / 0-)

...he opens a window.  And when he closes the window, he cranks the AC.

"The grebe must be in here."  Cal turned the brass doorknob and pushed it open.  The possibility that the Sorceress Maldeve might have placed a trap on the doorway did not occur to him until he stepped across it and heard the "Click."
Murray trudged up the stairs to the inn's upper floor lugging his pack, quarterstaff, shield and a bag of Hostess Iron Rations.  He halted at the door to their room and shifted the iron rations onto his knee to free up his hand so he could unlatch the door.  Then he nudged the door open with his butt.  "Hey Cal, I'm back."
Before she opened the door, Diedrie paused, with her hand just above the handle.  Rapidly she chanted:

    "Faeries who the threshold keep
Bless me as across I leap."

"Um, do you always do that when you enter a room?" Cal asked as he followed her.

"Of course!  Faeries like to dwell in doorways.  It's only polite to ask their permission before you cross it."
