    of the most dangerous kind of obesity.  Carrying that much fat in the mid-section (as opposed to more generally distributed overweight) is a big red flag for health problems including heart disease and diabetes.

    There's a guideline for assessing risk by measuring the waistline-- I just looked up the numbers and it's 36 inches for women and 40 inches for men.  People should know that and not just write this off as a bad fashion choice (although that's pretty undeniable too).
