I just finished reading "Connections Unplugged" and my head is about to explode.  How in the HELL did the sister get not one, but two of our top commanders to write letters of support? WTF is wrong with these guys?!

Whatever is wrong with them is not good.   So far I see these options:

      a) The top military/national security brass of this nation - the people most responsible for keeping us safe from foreign and domestic enemies - have the emotional maturity of junior high schools boys, with their favors easily co-opted by a tight dress, some flattery, and invitations to the right parties...

      b) The financially compromised Tampa Kardashian Twins have something on many of the CENTCOM celebs they've been 'entertaining' and can twist them around their little fingers with a whistle...

      c) Kelley and her unstable sister are working with the US in some sort of pseudo-espionage/go-between/informer function - possibly for pay, given their enormously embarassing debt situations - and their work is so sensitive, the CIA/FBI would rather throw Paula Broadwell (not exactly a subtle operator herself, but at least educated, experienced and credentialed - and a member of the military brother/sisterhood) under the bus than compromise them.

Every single possibility thus far listed (I'm sure there are more) is dismal and embarassing at best, horrifying and inexcusable (in terms of national security) at worst.

      It makes Profumo look sophisticated.

I now suspect that although Broadwell was obviously having an affair with Petraeus and may well have been jealous of Kelly, and most likely hacked into his schedule, she may have also been concerned that he and Allen were compromising themselves and possibly military and US interests in their dealings with Kelly, but instead of referring this to the FBI or CIA's internal investigation division (I assume they have one), to protect the generals and herself, she sent those anonymous emails, hoping that Kelly and Allen would have the good sense to stop what they were doing, whatever it was.

Thing is, if what Kelly was up to was as bad as you and I suspect, why would she compromise herself by referring the matter to the FBI, even if it was through her friend there? Was she that stupid and convinced of her own "inviobility" (You FBI agents get off my lawn!)? Or was what she was up to relatively innocuous, consisting of schmoozing with and perhaps bedding top military brass and little else? And why did she turn to the FBI and not Allen, a powerful man who could presumably helped her in the matter? Did she know he got those emails too?

I don't think that Kelly was involved in espionage, not directly at least. Her behavior seems too reckless and foolish to make her a likely spy. Sounds more like someone whose job it was to socially connect top military brass with defense contractors to secure fat contracts, via lavish parties and who knows what else (it's Tampa, after all). Maybe Broadbell figured this out and decided to put a stop to it, but in an amateur and stupid way intended to protect everyone.

Gotta wonder, though, if, not appearing to be the brighest bulb, Kelly was used by people who WERE trying to spy on the US, and she was too stupid to sense it or weak to do anything about it.
