    On votes that don't matter, or in which your vote wouldn't make a difference anyway, the Party leadership frequently lets certain members vote against the party if they think it will help them look good to their constituents.  Brown's bi-partisanship is a carefully crafted fiction.

    His slip-up of naming Scalia as favorite supreme court justice is all you need to know about where his true allegiances lie.

      Without his vote, financial re-regulation wouldn't have passed at all. But your basic point is completely correct.
