  •  The Democratic Party in MA is quite strong (5+ / 0-)

having lost only the Scott Brown 2010 race, really, since 2006. If the Democratic Party here is to be called "pathetic" I'd love to know what you think of it elsewhere.

The fact is, though, that Scott Brown remains quite popular. If Kerry vacates the seat, it's a short-term Gov. appointee and a special election, just like after Sen. Kennedy's death. The fact is that the state GOP would unite behind Scott Brown if he chooses to run. The Dems have no candidate, other than Gov. Deval Patrick (who can't appoint himself and is highly unlikely to step down to run), who can match Scott Brown's statewide name recognition, and the party may divide in a primary as in 2009.

We just worked our tails off here to get rid of Scott Brown. If the Kerry seat comes up in 2013, there's a good chance we could beat him again. But there's a good chance we couldn't. Seats in the Senate are precious. Kerry should stay where he is.
