    I remember driving somewhere in fog at 80 mph, afraid to slow down or get off the road because everybody else was doing the same thing. Somewhere on a 2-lane road in ag country.

    Also, doing 80 on the interstate around Palm Springs in a blinding sandstorm for the same reason. Ended up with a windshield so sandblasted I thought the storm was still going on 15 minutes later until I finally chanced a glance out the side window and found nothing but blue sky and clear air.

    Those incidents were from the early 70s and late 60s, respectively.

    In the 90s, I remember driving at 80 or so for about 4 hours each way, bumper to bumper, all the way from Pasadena to the Hearst Castle and back. Of course there were stops along the way, I doubt if the distance is 300 miles, lol.

    I wonder if it's changed at all?
