If she's wrong, how would the other kids collect?

The other kids don't care. They've given up on the possibility of a future. How's that for sick parenting?

To me progress is not so much a goal as it is a process and I believe it will not follow a straight course. Remember, the drops of water that form the river may not take the shortest path but they will still reach the ocean.

      •  Similar to those kids (0+ / 0-)

brought up by parents who've bought into all the predictions about The Rapture happening on XX date. Remember Harold Camping who predicted the Rapture would occur on May 21, 2011? What happened to all those folks who woke up on May 22 and found out they were still here? (More important, what happened when all the credit card bills they ran up came due?)

        •  Definitely a similar form of mental illness (4+ / 0-)

The 1840's saw "The Great Disappointment" of the Millerites. There's a website with all the random ass "prophecies" of the end times. From Nostradamus to hundreds of more recently charlatans bilking folks. Predicting the end of the world is, well, prophet-able.

were still fresh in the ground after the Ascension and people were predicting that he was coming back right around the corner. In retrospect, the assorted Caesars were probably a lot closer to Antichrist territory for early Christians than is Obama.

And during their lifetime. At first it was "a generation" then it was "soon" then it was "eventually". Of course now it's "any day". For a group that supposedly takes the Bible literally they have a funny way of showing it.
