  •  Rove is reeling because, (11+ / 0-)

as you may recall, his original plan way back when was to create a "Permanent Republican Majority" that would dominate American politics into the foreseeable future. The way he was going to do this was to draw the religious right (and later the batshit right) into the Republican tent, and then pay them just enough lip service to keep them interested. Unfortunately for him (fortunately for us) he created a monster he couldn't control: The lunatics took over the asylum.

During the Bush glory days, I read a long bio in the New Yorker about Karl Rove. It featured many passages of Karl expounding at length about his new majority.

He talked about "who votes Democrat" and about how he'd peel off and demolish these groups.  In Karl's view, who votes for Democrats?  Nobody important.

Minorities: not significant. Unions: targeted for destruction. Public sector workers: targeted for unemployment when gubmint shrinks.  Who else votes for Dems?   "A handful of professors and movie actors."

Karl was assuming Hispanics belonged to him because they were churchgoing folks.  Otherwise:  "It will no longer be in anybody's SELF-INTEREST to vote for the Democrats."

Most amazing to me was his abject ignorance of who the Democratic voters were, and why people did vote for Dems. And of course, non-Christians are not on Rove's radar, either. Note that outside the South this year, Obama did very well with white voters too--so the GOP lock on white people that Karl so took for granted is crumbling.

at least this one was bloodless.

The Revolution has already been televised. This is just the mopping up operation.
