  •  Benefits cuts... (6+ / 0-)

Raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 is a benefit cut.

Changing COLA on Social Security is a benefit cut.

You have read up on these and how various Dems support it, including the President?  There's a link up above of a member of House Leadership putting it specifically on the table, and there's no way in hell he'd do it if it wasn't something the Admin and other Dems were willing to bargin away.  That's not Steny trying to drive the Blue Dog narrative, but Van Hollen.

Seriously... wake up before it's too late.  This stops and starts with the President.  Look up deal he had with the Speaker last time: it's online now.  It shows you how far he's willing to go to get his Grand Bargin.

    •  Neither of those happened. In fact... (0+ / 0-)

the sequester the President agreed to specifically excluded those categories of spending from the automatic cuts.

That's not exactly a "track record" of supporting benefit cuts.

No, I haven't "read up on" how the President supports those things, because there isn't anything to suggest he does, and quite a bit of evidence - such as his ACTUAL RECORD IN OFFICER - demonstrating the opposite.

Also, the idea that no one in the House would put something on the table unless the Democratic support it is quite wrong.  Are you familiar with the Democratic Party?  We're not exactly the lock-step Republicans.  People go off the reservation all the time.

You sound exactly as confident as the people who told me to "wake up" in July 2011.  You talk about a "deal with the Speaker," but you seem to have failed to notice that the deal never happened.  A different deal, one that didn't contain any benefit cuts, happened.  Learn something from history, instead of just checking your gut.

Art is the handmaid of human good.
