    The successful franchises of course can afford it, but this is not usual. Even the successful franchisee doesn't make as much as you think.

    Consider the NYC Applebees franchise owner who sparked this debate: he owns nearly 40 locations in and around NYC with an average revenue of $4.25 million per restaurant and $13.5 million in revenue overall.

    How much he profits, I don't know. But restaurant owners all over know that margins are THIN.

    He said in a video that health insurance will cost millions across his system with at least 80 emloyees per location.

    What happens to those thin margins if millions across the system are spent on employee health?

      Jackass John Schnatter said he would have to raise the price of Papa John's pizza by 11 to 14 cents a pie to make up the difference.  Is that a huge burden to customers?  I don't eat his pizza because I think it tastes like cardboard, but if I did, I would much rather contribute some extra loose change if I knew the employees serving me had healthcare.  Instead, he threatens to cut his employees' hours.

      THAT is the definition of an asshole.

        I'd rather know that the worker who made and served my food had health insurance - because he or she would be more likely to go to the doctor when ill.  And if the store/company can't even care about their workers and would rather make a political point, well, that tells you how they feel about...oh...just over half of us out here!

        Had to raise the price of your 7.95 sandwich to 8.50 to pay for Obamacare - if you communicate that to me in a way that says you give a darn about your workers, I'll give you my business, that's for sure.
