the diarist gets it wrong in a big way.

First, the notion that Israel's action is in no way about security, and only about ensuring that Hamas remains militant, is silly beyond words. One may reasonably disagree with Yoffie's contentions that this operation will bring security to Israelis (especially over the long term), but to suggest that Israeli leaders are consciously and intentionally endangering the security of its citizens to ensure the political stalemate that a militant Hamas brings is baseless conjecture, a knee-jerk reaction to fit events into simple narrative (and maybe sell a few books in the process).

Sometimes reality is more complicated, and knee-jerk reactions coming from either side are not helpful.

Second, the diarist's contention that Yoffie's position is merely an exercise of "psychological demons . . .  from the Holocaust" is simplistic bullshit, as it is an attempt to once again dismiss the notion that there could be legitimate security concerns that factor into this.  Needlessly dragging the holocaust into this matter, in this way, as the diarist does, is outrageous and comes dangerously close to touching on antisemitic memes.

While I am not in full agreement with Yoffie's views, the views expressed in this diary are just hideous.
