    gov't (not you PeterHug, just a general observation), abrogation of the treaty is unlikely. Egypt has a need, for the foreseeable future, for funds from the EU / US / IMF et cet., and abrogation would doubtlessly imperil that funding. Some of the populist rhetoric about amending those parts of the treaty related to Egyptian autonomy over Sinai may, however, soon see some movement.

      needs the money from the US.  But the flip side is that the Egyptian Government now needs to pay attention to popular opinion in ways that it never has had to before...setting aside completely whatever their personal inclinations may be.

      I think that it's possible the could end up feeling that they have absolutely no choice but to do something substantive regarding the treaty.  An interim step could be to insist that Israel begin to move on several of the clauses affecting it that it has ignored...

      I note in passing that Egypt apparently has recalled their ambassador from Israel.
