    Of course they would be facing hell to pay
    Those Republicans in the majority in those gerrymandering districts might go "Woo hoo!" at being able to defeat the evil Democrats without even holding an election.  They haven't exactly shown themselves to be big supporters of democracy and fairness. And with gerrymandered districts, the only avenue would be state-wide elections, such as governor.  With a supermajority, even that wouldn't matter.  And voter suppression might even take that option away.
