  •  A good thing to do when they harass you (7+ / 0-)

When I tried to cancel my AOL account (email) years ago, they tried not to let me. So I discontinued my credit card. I had done everything I was supposed to in order to cancel, and it was always prepaid monthly. I'd quit in the early part of the month, and had already paid for that month. Then they kept calling me telling me I owed a $20 cancellation fee.

One day they called and I said, "You should know that I'm recording this call." The AOL rep told me I wasn't allowed to do that. I said, "You record it, if you can record it, so can I. I'm tired of you people harassing me." The AOL rep insisted I wasn't allowed to do it. I said, "Well, I'm doing it. And I'm telling you." She hung up, and I never heard from them again.

When they're harassing you, always inform them they are being recorded. And if they say you're not allowed, just tell them, yes, you are, as long as you inform them they're being recorded.
