  •  Long haul flights on a C-130.... (7+ / 0-)

I was one of those special people that got to experience the true pleasures in life of taking a long haul flight in a Herc. I've the pleasure of flying from California to the Phillippines, Guam, and oh yes, that special trip to Johnston Atoll.

I notice by the pictures that the creature comforts of the cargo (yes, a passenger, you are cargo) haven't improved since my trips in the mid-70's. It was a race between going deaf or having your butt go numb.

There was an upside to most of these flights..... we always seemed to break down for a couple of days in Hawaii on the way back.

All that being said, I much rather fly in a Herc than any other bird because I knew that no matter what, I was going to get there and back again. She maybe old but she's a hellva bird.

    •  Were you getting passed by pelicans? (2+ / 0-)

As much as I like Herks, they are oh so slow.  I got stuck on one flying from Kadena to Osan, and we were airborne for an eternity.  I've felt better after KC-135 flights between Okinawa and Guam.

How did you bear up under the strain?
