  •  "avoid conflicting information". Takes me back to (4+ / 0-)

when the full National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq was a hassle to read. The administration made it hard. Congress people had to go themselves to one of two secure locations, not their aides in their place. They were checked for recording equipment before going in. They weren't allowed to talk about what was in it, even to each other.
I think it was Leahy or maybe Durbin who really exhorted all the Dems to go read it before the vote (authorizing use of force)

A total of 6 Senators bothered to go read it. (None of them who were later running for president)
My best guess was many felt it was too big a political risk to  vote against the use of force and so did not want to see the information that would make it look like a bad vote.
    Seemed unbelievable.

Okay, back from the past now.
The republicans who wanted to make Obama administration look bad should have thought to go to the closed door sessions first and then say what they did. So what if the information they got contradicted them, we wouldn't know.
