    You know that if you set it at, say 30 hours a week, some asshole will make sure that everyone who works for him does no more than 29.

    This is the age of the computer. It's no sweat to calculate fractional benefits. If they have to pay benefits to everyone, then perhaps they'll see the wisdom in hiring people full-time.

      everyone pays regardless of part-time or full-time status, and where the employer also pays for every employee, just as they do for SS and medicare. As it stands now, employers like Walmart and a slew of others skate by with these tactics and shift the burden to the rest of us.
