trick people into voting for them.  They don't respect us.
They don't care about us.  They think we're stupid enough to actually vote for them if they just say the words.

Eugene Robinson is the man.  He speaks for me.

    •  I like Eugene (0+ / 0-)

but he violates the "Never smarten up a chump" rule with his urging Republicans to move back into reality. Let them continue to marginalize themselves.

He says, "...parties without meaningful competition become flabby, lazy, unresponsive. Democratic candidates shouldn’t win by default, and neither should progressive ideas." But I don't recall Republicans ever contributing much of anything useful to the national dialog. At least not since Eisenhower and the interstate highway system.

Can anybody think of any great Republican ideas which made life better for the middle class?

Rachel had similar praise for Bobby Jindal's view that Republicans need to appeal to all Americans. Why? Leave them there on the margins, Rachel. What advantage has come to us from having them in the game?

And that was like 40 years ago. Also, Bush the Lesser's attempt to get Immigration Reform done, before his own party obliterated it. Other than that, I got nothing.

And that's in the past 40 years. Yikes.

The Republicans are on their own path to political irrelevence. We don't need to help them at all. Once the demographic cliff hits them, they're done as a national party. Hell, they're probably going to be done as soon as 2020-2024 (if we can fix the gerrymandering fiasco the Dems squandered to fix in their favor after the 2010 debacle).

The Grand Bargain must be stopped at all costs to protect the 99%.
