  •  never mind the health aspects... (1+ / 0-)

Aside from the health aspects of Hostess products, what matters is that they offered a somewhat affordable alternative for the poor and working class who can't order fancy specialty pies and cakes from gourmet bake shops.  They offered a way for the less well-to-do to satisfy a sweet tooth, to get some immediate gratification and some sense of celebration every now and again.

So, once again, the "little people" are being squeezed -- losing their jobs and losing the few moments of pleasurable escape that had been available to them.

Meanwhile, the fat cats are lolling about, eating bonbons and pocketing millions for doing nothing.

While I neither envy the wealthy nor want to "deprive" Serial Liar Mitt Romney and others of his station to amass ever more money if they are pathetic enough to believe that wealth is the sole component of one's worth, I do take exception to their means of transferring wealth from the bottom to the top; their thievery is despicable; they steal jobs and food from the less well-off, then decry the needy poor who don't have jobs or food because they "lack gumption" or something.  There is nothing wrong with the honest, well-meaning poor, but there is everything wrong with the obscenely wealthy who do every devious thing within their power to squash the less fortunate.
