and during GWB, but haven't watched in a while. Is this attitude typical of house members? I sort of think it is and that this story isn't that big a deal, I could be wrong though.

    •  I honestly couldn't say (24+ / 0-)

if the attitude is typical or not.   Based on the few hatchet job hearings I've seen though, this one seems to be a bit different because the facts are clearer where many other hearings had facts more obscured in myriad details.  This one seems to me to have more:

      * blatant GOP grandstanding (McCain getting called out by at least 2 networks about his missing an information session on Benghazi while holding a press conference demanding more information.)
      * obvious distortion of facts by GOP (Rice's role and comments in particular)
      * obvious hypocrisy by GOP by cutting funding of security.
      * clear, concise refutation by Dems.

Sometimes the GOP get away with their contrived bile.  This time they clearly overreached and it may bite them where it hurts.

although the fact that the corp media is still seeking mccain out (one example, he was on piers morgan last night) shows me that they're still happily taking what the publicans are giving out.  The sea change will come when you don't see the same old talking heads on the cablenets and sunday shows.

      •  I can't help thinking (27+ / 0-)

of Condi's utter incompetence as NSA every single time they attack Susan Rice. It is so glaring.

Democrats took the high road on 9/11 even after it was clear how much the administration ignored both expert advice and warnings (there were warnings before the Aug 6 PDB). Bush/Cheney/Rice/etc. dragged their feet on paying the least bit of attention to what they were clearly told was a grave national security threat (Clinton, Richard Clarke, and the Hart-Rudman report, which they immediately ignored, saying Cheney would do his own research, which never even started until the week of the attacks, Cheney instead spending time making plans with the oil companies how to carve up Iraq) and then continued to drag their feet when multiple intelligence warnings (both from our own intelligence agents plus multiple other countries) were trying to tell them something was up with what they'd been warned about.

Clinton's example with the millenium bomb plot was to task every possible agency to dig for anything at all relevant, and report it daily until they got a break. Maybe 9/11 couldn't have been averted, but I can't help thinking that if they had tasked intelligence agencies to look specifically for anything that might help, Colleen Rowley's work might have gotten attention for one, and they might have been able to avert it. They were so fucking focused on finding a pretext for invading Iraq, they just did less than nothing instead, including National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. She compounded those errors by rejecting sound intelligence on Iraq and instead repeating ginned-up, cherry-picked garbage to boost entering the Iraq clusterfuck.

Not to mention her predecessor SoS Colin Powell humiliating himself on a world stage with more garbage and lies, which were so transparent, the rest of the world was on to it immediately and stunned, while our media gushed over what a masterful presentation it was, presumably because he spoke in complete sentences about things the media was too lazy to actually look at.

And they have the nerve to smear Susan Rice?

        This makes my blood boil.
