  •  The internet helps. GOP can't control info (13+ / 0-)

and message the way they used to.

Yes, they still have hate radio and FOX, but those are dying media. Young people, and huge segments of the US can now get information directly, for themselves.

I came to DK when the insane push for Iraq was ongoing. I could see it was absolutely unfounded, but the Repubs were simply overwhelming the messaging.

Not everyone learned their lessons then, but many did. And more and more people not only look for information for themselves, they have so many places to find good, solid reality based info. As well as informed commentary and discussion by experienced folks. We are all helping each other...look at our election night experience, for example. We were told the truth in advance, prevented from freakout ala Andrew Sullivan, and were not subject to manipulation by the big propaganda machines.

Those that want propaganda, of whatever type, can find that in plenty as well. But the entire country isn't entrained--or entrainable--anymore, IMHO.

Life is a school, love is the lesson.

    •  the tricky part (9+ / 0-)

with fabricated scandals is that real info may not be readily available, either due to complicated storylines and privacy issues (e.g. Petraeus) or government security and time-consuming investigations (e.g. Benghazi) -- which puts us at a disadvantage in combating the lies from the Right, and gives them the opportunity to create and disseminate fraudulent information before the truth ever sees the light of day.

This is a problem, and it requires that leading Democrats and intrepid and honest journalists, who may have greater access to real information and to public visibility, stand up and shout down the scandal-mongers in real time, before conspiracy theories take root in the mainstream consciousness.

      Please proceed, Governor.

      •  This is so true: (12+ / 0-)
        complicated storylines and privacy issues
And then, how much work are the lazy corporate media willing to do to unwind some of those?

One of the reasons I have some hope about the truth getting out is I think things are quite a bit simpler than "Fast and Furious" let's say.

        1)  McCain caught grandstanding about lack of information while missing briefing.  Check out this comment on that:

So, let me get this straight. Yesterday, McCain said Susan Rice is "not very bright." This morning, McCain said the Obama administration is "incompetent." But given a chance to get answers about Benghazi, this towering intellect and model of competence forgot to show up for a briefing, and blamed a scheduling mishap?

        2)  Petraeus pushes back against GOP.

        3) House GOP underfunded State Dept security.  (see diary update).

With a tiny bit of honesty among the corporate media, McCain and House GOP could get a bit boxed in with their phony narrative.
