  •  Locally, here in New York, we've seen some (5+ / 0-)

    of that recently, as Occupy Sandy mobilized and coordinated with other community groups and agencies.

    Some of the larger agencies dropped the BS and supported Occupy Sandy, because Occupy Sandy was in the position to directly help those with urgent needs.

    Or we could take responsibility and try to create something new, hard as that may be. Something more sustainable.

    That, however, requires effort, imagination, creativity, and moral courage--attributes we have not been asked to demonstrate for a long time now. But I believe we are still capable of them.

    The other larger groups have other roles, but a lot of people noticed the strategies and failures of the Red Cross. Where they were focused on fund-raising before getting help to devastated neighborhoods.
