    No one was asking for Gabby Giffords resignation. As someone who has dealt with mental illness, this diary is offensive.

          - that's the issue.

          Just like with Petraeus.

          His affair, is not a criminal matter, but his apparent poor judgment and capacity to be black-mailed compelled a larger investigation.

          Now we have a shit load of resources going into an investigation because of his preening need to show off his publicist (so called biographer) and her going fatal attraction on him.

          Her extra-marital sex life is not the scandal, it's that she was stalking Kelley, Gen Petraeus, and Gen Allen.

          re-elected him.

          It's sleazy to get re-elected and then a week later announce that a plea deal is likely within the next 2 months, that likely will include jail time.

          Do you really intend to suggest that he can recover and serve as an effective Congressman at this point?

          If so, let him resign, do his plea deal/jail time, restitiution, and then run again.  If his constituents re-elect him, so be it.
