  •  And every time (14+ / 0-)

someone here chooses to buy from Walmart, they drive this business model in deeper.

We were told that boycotting South African racism "just hurt the victims" but I spoke once to one of those victims who told me, "keep it up, things wont get better unless someone with some power takes these people on".

Every purchase, every time, steals from the workers who serve you.

Until inauguration day The USA is in the greatest danger it has ever experienced.

    •  I agree with the principle (5+ / 0-)

      behind this.

"Outspan" oranges were banned for many years in our house ... the day Nelson Mandela was released my Mom came home with a bag of Outspan oranges and said "From now on we buy South African Fruit, because they need all the revenue they can get".

But boycotts are problematic from any number of angles. We have pretty much run out of restaurants we can eat in, and the ones that are left are simply the ones who haven't been caught abusing people yet.

Grocery shopping is similar. Many folk don't actually have a choice. We may only have a Walmart, or, quite frankly, we may need the Walmart low prices, at least for now.

But Walmart, and Papa Johns are not 8000 miles away, they are 1 1/2 miles away, here in America.

I will always support those who boycott, but in the end we have to solve this problem from the other end.

Employers only get away with that which governments allow.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.
