    But it's shocking to learn how even someone at the very top of a big company, like say the oil companies is so entrenched in a cultura; mindset that they aren't able to make agile shifts that would position them better for the future. Instead they use a heavy hand to maintain an unsustainable status quo.
    an example, perhaps, the Koch brothers throwing money at elections that try to perpetuate a racists top down political environment that caters to privilege of the people at the top, ignoring the contribution of people who work at the nuts and bolts level of the organization and may have very good ideas.
    A terrific book on this is Reg Theriault's:

    a funny interesting book full of surprising stories that speak up for working people because they sometimes know better than the bosses how things should be done.

        the writer was enrolled for a short time in college in SF or Berkley I think but he opted to quit and do physical work for a living and became a longshoreman on the San francisco docks - (a great story about gridlocked railroad car lines at the dock is in the book).
