  •  I have never shopped at a Walmart and I never (6+ / 0-)

will.  There are all kinds of wrong related to that Company.  Besides the way they treat their direct employees, how do people think they are able to offer so much crap at such low prices?  Because they buy product from countries that pay their workers slave wages requiring they work insane hours per day, working in dismally unsafe conditions, in factories that spew toxic waste into the environment.  All of this while their workers are often forced to live in filthy, over-crowded closet sized dorm rooms with wall to wall bunkbeds and severely inadequate washing and toilet facilities.  Anyone who shops there is an enabler and complicit in their disgraceful behavior IMHO.

Yes. Sadly, many Kossacks do shop there, feeling as though they have no choice because of the low prices.

I watched my father walk picket lines in the snow, in the heat.  I watched my mother and father sacrifice what little they had during those strikes, and I shut my mouth about wanting anything or complaining that there were things I couldn't do.

His father walked the picket lines as well, and how well we know the stories of deaths, heads busted in, the Pinkertons, etc.

Sadly, today, it's too much to even ask someone not to shop there

      •  I can appreciate your experiences with strikes (0+ / 0-)

and how it has affected your life.  There were many times during my childhood that my father was laid off for periods of time when the economy was slow and I knew never to ask for a thing, only to be grateful that there was some kind of food to eat - pancakes, boxed mac-n-cheese, tuna casserole, bologna sandwiches, milk from dried milk powder (the worst), etc.  However, there are plenty of alternatives to shopping at WalMart so I disagree that it is too much to ask that people refrain.  One can shop at Costco, dollar stores can be found in most communities, regular grocery stores now have pricing that is equal to WalMart particularly if one looks for what is on sale each week and uses coupons.  There are also farmers markets in most communities now.  As far as other items like clothing, housewares, electronics, toys, etc., there are plenty of other retailers that sell these things; look for sales, they happen throughout the year.  Sorry, just no excuse.
