    My daughter is 13 just opened up a FB account.  I am one of her friends so I get access to her page and her friends (and you better believe I check it daily).  I can access some of her other friends' pages but some are blocked.

      and then just provide it to people you know and trust. I have a fictitious FB name and all my details are fictitious. Only my family and very close friends know. Helps a lot.

        word, "sslstrip".  That can be avoided by never using the church's "open" wifi and properly securing your home router (only use WPA2, disable WPS) though.
