Is there any advantage at all to using a phrase such as, "Gifford's seat" or "Kennedy's seat" or "Wellstone's seat?"

It just gives the right-wing blowhards something else to gripe about. And it probably doesn't inspire even a single Democratic vote for our new candidate.

I think calling it Gabby Gifford's seat is an easy way to inform the national audience about the district and its location.  I don't think it will continue to be referred to that way.

Kennedy's seat and Wellstone's seat is also a handy way of reminding voters that they once had senators who stood for things they liked and that it would be a shame to replace those people and their issues with, say, Scott Brown.

I'm sure "Kennedy's seat" will be known as "Warren's seat". Not sure if Franken will ever overcome "Wellstone's seat" just because of the tragic nature of Wellstone's death.
