  •  True. Barack Obama is the people's President. (24+ / 0-)

He does not have all the powers royalists routinely falsely claim for their leaders and some democrats are disappointed that they cannot make them real. A dictator is so appealing because dictatorship seems to simplify. But, complexity and diversity are the hallmarks of life.
One lesson of Occupy should be that the major media do not reflect what is actually happening on the ground. The media are geared towards novelty and evolutionary change is beyong their comprehension. The electronic media are attracted to flash-in-the-pan.
But, that's OK. Word of mouth will suffice. Word of mouth is what drove the U.S. out of Iraq. Word of mouth is what will corral the banks. Word of mouth is what will put people back into homes.
The Walmart action is beyond inspiring.

    •  Occupiers show where the left side really is. (5+ / 0-)

Many pundits show how intellectually lazy they are by assuming that Obama was on the left side of the spectrum, therefore the center must be to the right of him.

Along comes Occupy Wall Street to show that Obama is much more of a centrist tan they'd given him credit for being. I think the Osawatomie speech would have been impossible if it hadn't been for OWS.

That's why the Republicans wanted to bring back Hippiephobia to blunt the edge of OWS. That's why Gingrich told them to get a job (if that was as easy as Newt implied, the GOP wouldn't have had a chance.) after taking a bath. (Many witnesses who remember the 60s said that Occupy encampments didn't smell as bad a hippie communes.)

The furor over Friday's [10.5] job report revealed a political movement that is rooting for American failure, so obsessed with taking down Obama that good news drives its members into a blind rage. -Paul Krugman
