Hard to take anything seriously when people invent realities to suit their point of view.

When you say 'significant damage' you obviously mean a few extra grains of sand might have been broken ...
The iron dome has only stopped a third of Hamas's rockets in the last three days so the other two thirds did what damage exactly?
The few hundred missiles fired before the Israelis assassinated another Palestinian leader killed how many Israelis exactly?

3 dead Israelis from one rocket hitting a tower block, and all other deaths carried out by the State of Israel is the only fact you don't need any understanding of weaponry, imagination or clairvoyance to determine.

Republicans make America feel like the scariest place on Earth from the inside, and look bat-shit crazy from the outside.

    •  So you think ... (11+ / 0-)

... that the rockets and mortars fired into Israel were done for fun?  You think they weren't TRYING to kill Israeli citizens?  Seriously?

Should a person who opens fire in a movie theater get some kind of leniency because he didn't kill someone with every shot (or extra leniency because some shots totally missed)?  And if someone in the theater happened to be wearing body armor, in your world shots fired into the body armor don't count at all, just rearranging a few molecules of Kevlar, right?

I haven't been here long enough to be considered a Kossack, does that mean that I'm just a sack?

    •  Are the long-range missiles homemade? (5+ / 0-)

Or are they sophisticated missiles smuggled in through the tunnels? If they are not homemade (made in Gaza), then the diarist has a serious problem with the facts.

    •  Israel has stated that it is strategically (4+ / 0-)

targeting its bomb targets, and given the rundown of what has been hit -- Prime Minister HQ, radio tower -- it seems like they are being strategic, although they're aiming for any Hamas leader, so the BBC has told its reporters in Gaza to avoid Hamas leaders who may be targets.

Hamas has been less strategic, whether one supports them or not (personally, I support neither Hamas, nor the Israeli Government, nor bombing anyone at all here). They have shelled 1,000 missiles so far, with 100 falling back toward them -- I'm not clear if that caused any Palestinian deaths, but there are reports that Palestinians are angry with Hamas about the shellings, and I don't doubt that. Another third were caught by the Iron Dome program. One almost hit a large number of people in Tel Aviv on a beach, IIRC. One hit someone's carport. So these don't sound strategically launched to me. There is no evidence that they are, at any rate.

The entire situation is tragic and must cease. Hamas has put forth new, strong terms: opening the Palestinian border, which are being discussed now by Egypt and other allies like Qatar and Turkey, some of whom are also reported to have better relationships with Obama than Netanyahu does. So we shall see what the outcome is. I think it may be different than it has been in the past. I base that on the changing cast of characters, mainly.

the past few hours, I now doubt that these are as strategic as I felt earlier. The bombing deaths of 11 civilians who were not in any particular Hamas-target, two of whom were children, and the anger from the foreign press conjoined with the Government's backtracking about this does not give me that feeling at this time.

I think everyone is terrified and wants this to stop. That's been my view since this started, but right now, it's solidified after reading yet more individual statements from civilians on both sides who are afraid.
