  •  Time to put the poli back in policy (5+ / 0-)

And time to base it on what makes sense and actually works, not some wackjob theories conjured up in the febrile imagination of some "think tank" hacks who couldn't get a real job. Social welfare programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid aren't just morally necessary. They actually help the economy and save taxpayers money, by spending money on the less expensive front end rather than the far more expensive back end (e.g. prevention vs. treatment). The people who have a problem with such programs are puritanican nincompoops who lack a basic understanding of complex systems--i.e. the real world.

Perhaps even the deficit scolds are starting to understand that not only are they politically weak and morally wrong, but that cutting these programs will only hurt the economy and increase the deficit in the end, making them wrong on the policy as well--a hat trick for what's right. Penny wise, pound foolish and all that.

    •  You give them too much credit, most are (0+ / 0-)

strict "survival of the fittest" types.
They would prefer that the disadvantaged of any kind would be exploited (if possible) until dying off without any intervention.
