except toward power.  Power is money, and these guys like to eat.  NPR got squeezed badly under Bush, as noted above.  Throttle the money, and watch attitudes change, after all, who's your daddy?

Cokie Roberts went corporate years ago, and the rest of them are getting pretty long in the tooth as well.  I'd love to see just one Moyers-like figure in the new crop, that would give me hope.  Instead, as an old guy myself, I find my self increasing turned off by the breezy style that passes for ironic observation.  Irony is way overrated as a stance toward issues, and should be used only by those whose mettle has been tested.

Not everything falls in line, but it does more often than not. Compare today's Washington Post to that of the Post in the 70's. DC has 4 papers that cover politics. The neocon post, the trashy right wing examiner, the insane Washington Times, and the smutty right wing Politico. Add to that the right wing think tanks, AEI, Heritage, CATO etc., K street lobbyists, the military complex, and you see a town that remains hard wired for conservative power. In the 60's this was the opposite, plus you had a very politically powerful union sector. I would guess over the next ten years though you'll see more liberal policy positions in DC.

The Book of Revelation is not a foreign policy manual.
