Watched an interview with a physicist who grew up in Ireland.  A precocious kid, at age 8 he had heard about transubstantiation and got a microscope and thought up all kinds of wonderful experiments to prove it.  Alas, the priest basically told him to shut up and not apply scientific rationality to religious doctrine.  He was shocked, upset, and this in itself caused him to move away from the church.

      does not come off well.

By contrast, I was visiting the Giant Buddha in Hong Kong, and they have a really good tofu buffet (not kidding!!) where the tofu mimics all kinds of meat and/or Buddha's body parts - who knows?  But curious minds like mind wanted to address that - so I asked if I could take the food off-site for scientific analysis and they happily brought me take out containers . . .. (confidentially, there was a bit of a language barrier so I'm not sure they really knew exactly what I was asking, but whatever).

Bottom line, the whole experience almost spurred me to convert away from pastafarianism.  Almost.   But that's a damn tasty religion, too!!
